Wear Where: Dries Van Noten's City Lights Shirt

Thanks to blogs and websites, we can observe in real time how trends spread in each city. Taking advantage of Aloha Rag's multiple locations, we asked our staff to style one of our favorite pieces of the season, Dries Van Noten's City-Lights shirt! This is the first in a new series of posts we like to call, Wear Where...

HAWAII: Since we're in Hawaii, where the weather gets pretty hot and humid around this time of year, we styled the shirt as a jacket. We added a splash of neon with the tank, and finished with easy shorts and sparkly sandals for a touch of luxury... (The Row sunglasses, Surf Bazaar Tank, 3.1 Phillip Lim Shorts, Lanvin Sandals)

Tokyo: It's getting hotter and hotter every day in Tokyo, so we like wearing sorbet colors to keep our style temperature down. We emphasized the waistline with a wide belt, and paired the look with platform sandals to give it a few extra inches. We added the skull necklace to spice the style up and finished it with a sophisticated clutch! (Alaia belt, Carven Shorts, Lanvin Sandals, Celine clutch, Florian necklace)

New York: We played off the color of the blouse since it evokes thoughts of a beautiful Spring or Summer day. We wanted our girl to look bright, fresh and cute from head to toe! (AR trousers, Martin Margiela sandals, Florian Necklace, Lanvin sunglasses)

SS12 Martin Margiela German Trainer

If Martin Margiela's iconic piece of Women's footwear is the Tabi, when it comes to Men, it definitely would be the famous German Trainer. It draws inspiration from the training footwear of the West German Army, circa 1970-80's. Their gum sole gives a classic sports vibe, and upper has simple stitching and blocking that provides multi-utility for various kinds of looks. Every season, Martin Margiela releases these trainers in all kinds of materials! For SS12, we've received black linen and painted linen in white, blueish-grey combo, and also the unparallelled classic leather and suede pair in Margiela's signature white color! DOSA in ARNY

We were very happy to have DOSA's designer Christina Kim and Asami from the DOSA NY store at Aloha Rag New York! She thoughtfully explained the detailed materials and techniques that are used in crafting their garments, and we were treated to stories that we would love to share with you... such as how DOSA works with talented craftsman in many countries to provide jobs to the local community. What she does makes DOSA as such an inspiring and one-of-a-kind brand. They always keep execcess materials from the production to recreate something, and never waste anything in the processes. She showed us amazing projects from the past and new ones she's been working on, which you can check online here! Sale Pick: Raf Simon's Bomber Jacket

This Raf Simons' Bomber Jacket from his famous 1995 debut collection is easily one of the most coveted pieces this season, whether you are a big fan, or a new follower of his design. It has an exaggerated volume and puffiness, but the silhouette is still very clean and polished, very Raf Simon's style. Constructed of nylon with a slight sheen, the sportswear and military influences blend perfectly, making this jacket an unmistakable trademark Raf Simons piece!!! As you can see in the picture below, the jacket seems to be Raf Simon's favorite as well... We still have a few sizes left at Aloha Rag, and you can find them here.

Staff Affections: ARNY

Aloha Rag's store staff are the ones who get to spend the most time with the items. They see new arrivals come and go, and talk with some customers on an daily basis. They always keep their eyes open to observe trends and current events, and most of all , they represent Aloha Rag. Sometimes though, there are pieces that they just can't help liking more then others. Aloha Rag New York's staff shared a few their FW affections that are in store right now!

"I like the weight and thickness of this Raf Simons Motgomery Coat. As a tall person, the size 52 fits perfect, and the small details, such as dual-color cord button loops and unique toggle shape, makes this piece a great fashionable coat for Winter. I am also a big fan of The Elder Statesman's Knit Scarf in Navy. The cashmere keeps you extra warm in the extreme New York cold. These two are my favorites in the store right now."

"I simply love this Dalmatian Dress by Azzadine Alaia. It's classic, timeless, beautifully constructed, and also very smooth and soft against the skin. I would love to have it in my closet so I could just take it out and stare at it. I personally admire everything Azzedine Alaia does as an designer, and it's great to have his creations so close at the NY store!!"

"The Balmain Peacoat is my favorite piece of outerwear we currently have because I have never seen a more perfect peacoat. Its stiff structure, wide lapels, high collar and fitted sleeves are incredible, and instantly make you feel like a gentleman. The Margiela boots are another great classic that I can wear every day. The dark brown color makes them easy to match with any outfit and the side zipper provides a welcomed convenience."
