In addition to our online shop, the Honolulu and New York boutiques are Aloha Rag's powerhouses that provide a complete experience of our vision. We would like to shine a little light on our physical stores, starting with the New York boutique (or ARNY as we like to call it) which was established about 4 years ago in downtown Manhattan (Hudson Square area). I interviewed Jeff Collins, the store manager!
What's the best thing about the store?
"The space itself is one of the biggest highlights of the store. We get so much natural light throughout the day, which creates such an inviting environment to work and shop in. The store is very open and bright which really showcases the clothing and artwork on the walls.
The selection inside the store is really what makes people come here to shop. The pieces are carefully edited from the collections we buy and they all work so well together to provide a selection that suits the broad range of clients that shop with us. "
How would you describe the customers style?
"For the most part, our customers have a relaxed & casual style and they know that when they come to the store they can find unique pieces that everyone else isn’t going to be wearing. We also have the clients that need an amazing dress or suit for an event, and they come here to find an Alaia or 3.1 Phillip Lim dress or a Jil Sander or AR suit."
What do you like about the neighborhood the store is in?
"We are located in a quiet residential area of the city, which gives us the feeling of being in a bit of an oasis in the busy city. We have so many neighbors and locals that shop with us and have become friends over the years, and that really defines the neighborhood, charming and friendly. We are just a few blocks from the Hudson River so we have a great riverside park nearby and great restaurants and other shops in the area."
Where is you favorite coffee / lunch spot?
"We have two great restaurants across the street from the store. 508 which serves New American cuisine and is a great spot for Sunday brunch, and on the corner is Pao which serves delicious Portuguese food and is a popular lunch destination. Just around the corner is the historic Ear Inn, which was first opened in 1817 and is one of NYC’s oldest bars. It's a great place for lunch (we love the cowboy chili) and a drink or two after work. For coffee and sweets we can’t resist the chocolate goodies at Jacques Torres (we highly recommend the warm chocolate chip cookies!) or Dominique Ansel Bakery for a great cup of coffee and a pastry."
