SS12 Martin Margiela German Trainer

 

If Martin Margiela's iconic piece of Women's footwear is the Tabi, when it comes to Men, it definitely would be the famous German Trainer. It draws inspiration from the training footwear of the West German Army, circa 1970-80's.  Their gum sole gives a classic sports vibe, and upper has simple stitching and blocking that provides multi-utility for various kinds of looks. Every season, Martin Margiela releases these trainers in all kinds of materials! For SS12, we've received black linen and painted linen in white, blueish-grey combo, and also the unparallelled classic leather and suede pair in Margiela's signature white color! SS12 Little Black Dresses!

All women know that you can never go wrong with a perfect little black dress; LBD as it's affectionately known! It's a classic style that never goes out of style, and whenever you are lost in your closet and have no clue what to wear, it is one you always know will work. Every season Aloha Rag seeks great LBDs, and these three above are some of our favorite dresses from the recent arrivals! 3.1 Phillip Lim's dress has a beautiful drape on the front, and a thin white strap to mark the waistline. When you would like a relaxed LBD, Girl. by Band of Outsiders' dress would be your choice! Utilizing three different materials, it can easily be casual or dressed-up depending on your pairing of shoes and accessories. AR's First Dress has a baby-doll silhouette which makes your legs extra long, and the crisp linen-blended cotton creates girly volume! As the name states, this is the first dress that AR designed. Inspiration from the archive: Chanel Vintage!

Aloha Rag will always have it's mind on current fashion, but it's also fun to go back and look at photos from fashion's history to observe how trends came and went, or remain and became classic. Here you can find an old muse of Chanel's, Kirsten McMenamy, wrapped in oodles of Chanel gold accessories... The shot was taken in 1992 for Vogue Italia, and it's an overloading of pearls, gold chains and the famous CC logo. What makes this look work is the simple white tank and blue jeans!! Whether you enjoy this beautiful jewelry with the "more-is-more" philosophy, or simply put one piece on to make it stand-out, Chanel vintage jewelry always makes the difference! FW12 MENS LANVIN runway backstage via T Magazine

Men's FW12 fashion show were at their pinnacle a few days ago. Did you find anything exciting? T Magazine revealed backstage photos of Lanvin's runway show, showing the exciting moments and craziness of the show! We found a familiar face in a couple of the shots, Milo who modeled for Aloha Rag's website many times. Indigo Blue

As we were looking through the recent arrivals of SS12, we've noticed that indigo is definitely a key-color this season for both men's and women's wear. The true navy pigment reminds us of the deep sea, and the sky at dawn, anything that instantly connects with nature and the earth. Mostly known as dye for denim, indigo is one of the oldest techniques of garment dying, which has been practiced across the globe since the 18th century. Dosa's indigo series are hand-died in India with real indigo, which makes the quality and hue pristine! As time goes by indigo fades, part of it's natural character, and as it does it tells the personal story of your wear of the garment through it's wrinkles and the marks broken in by you. AR in Pitti!

It's the busy season for AR right now, and Tatsugo and the team are flying overseas back and forth presenting the collection. A few weeks ago, they took a trip to Pitti Uomo to show the new line. Here are a few photos from one of the biggest men's trade show in the world! Currently they are in Paris for the men's FW12 presentation. Meanwhile at the showroom, FW12 women's samples are arriving daily, and they are GORGEOUS!!  Here at the Atelier, we're casting everyday for the forthcoming look book shoot in the beginning of February... Martin Margiela's Aids tee is probably the most iconic/must-have item from their designs. It keeps coming back every season in different color, sometimes changing language, and this SS12, we've received a very special version with metal letters!!
