Every season Martin Margiela brings something that is intelligently humorous for us to lust over. The distinguished designs are unexpactable, unique, and incomparable to other designers. Without fail, the accessories we had recieved for SS11 are plenty extra-ordinary! The bags above are inspired by a men's travel bag, featuring a lockable zip, studded metal feet and a disperportioned "Ball chain" chain that adds extra character. The bags are made with very soft calf skin and have the flexibility to change shape because of the internal wire frame. It can also be carried as a clutch if the "Ball chain" is detached. I stopped by the store today to grab a few things for a shoot this weekend and spotted this Adam Kimmel shirt. I was intrigued at the rather avant garde placket attachment, and thought that (although Adam could pull it off) it was pretty out of character. Zachary (our NY store manager) pointed out that the shirt had a detachable collar and it was simply a way of displaying the second collar. Stoops... The shirt is amazing, you can have a perfectly bright summer plaid collar or a slightly longer "rim" patterned one. The "rim" design is sophisticated, but pretty gangster, which fits right in with Adam's Snoop Dogg inspired collection... The shirt will be up on the website soon! This season, we are very happy to bring back CDG's Junya Watanabe collection to Aloha Rag! Considered to be one of the most gifted designers from Japan, Junya began working for Rei Kawakubo after graduating from Bunka Fashion College in 1984. As Rei mentored him, and their work relationship developed, Kawakubo encouraged Junya to design his own collection under the Comme des Garcons umbrella. In 2000, Watanabe debuted his own men's line with CDG. His designs are known for their artistic tailoring and draping with an experimental approach to fabrics. Utilizing modern techniques, such as waterproofing and glow-in-the-dark fibers, he isn't afraid to take a risk and challenge new themes every season. Even while collaborating with other reputable brands such as Brooks Brothers, Converse and Moncler, Junya never loses his playful taste of design. Avoiding the media exposure as much as possible, Junya keeps his personality mysterious and that may be one of the reasons why his brand has a cult following. This season, he took inspiration from classic sailor uniform and nautical patterns, the collection looks very fresh with lots of unique details. Established in 2004 by Udo Koji, Factotum is one of the Japanese brands Aloha Rag proudly carries. Each season, the designer travels to a new destination in search of inspiration for the next collection. Past destinations include Ireland, India and Berlin. "The clothes are kind of like souvenirs, but it's still basic wearable stuff," says Udo. The desiger brings back the inspirations from the other continent, and produces the collection using Japanese fabrication. Taking the brands name from a Bukowski novel that was published in 1975, you can see the free spirit through every detail of the design. Take a look at this short video, "EXILE" to peep how the Factotum jeans are sewn and processed in a denim factory in Japan. I stopped by the George Condo show up at The New Museum today. I am only recently aware of his work, but I like it... a lot. His crazed and gleeful characters have a really relatable characteristics, and the playfulness of them makes the heavy themes really easy to swallow! Even his Bronze sculptures were really accomplished and I think I was most impressed by them. He has been more present in the public eye recently because of his work on the Adam Kimmel FW10 line and Kanye West's new album artwork. I was short on time, but got it all in, so if you have a spare sec, Go! The show at The New Museum will be up through May 8th... I don't have any personal photos to share because I got yelled at every time I tried. =) I would like to commend the security guards on a job well done... here are some shots from smoother criminals via Google Image Search....
Every season I sneak in a couple personal orders...This season, out of all the pieces I ordered, I am most excited for this vest from Martin Margiela LINE 4! I finally got my hands on something from his famous Driver's Knit series.
It's cotton so that I can wear it in the hot weather here in Hawaii! Also, the vest has the snap buttons on the sides so you can wear it in many ways. Don't worry, we ordered the navy color version of this for you! It will be up on the website soon, so please keep an eye out for it.
Next, I got this black leather egg by Ann Demeulemeester, made in Germany. It is a multi-use egg with tough shell, and can be worn as a necklace or charm for your bag.
Last but not least, I also ordered an initial charm by Ginette_NY. (Please click on the image on the left, it's on the black egg) I was looking for something that I can wear all the time, so this charm was perfect

New season, new bags... The Common Projects Shopping Bag is made with buttery soft nappa leather and has buckled adjustable hand straps. Speaking of "shopping bags", check out the new version of Martin Margiela's well-known Furoshiki bag. The shape of the bag is taken from a standard plastic shopping bag, which gives the bag humorous and unique character. Of course, what makes the difference is Margiela materials and craftsmanship. This bag is made from a tiny beads arranged on leather to replicate stingray texture. The glass beads also slightly reflect light, so you bring the sparkle where ever you go, and it has a big capacity. If you are looking for something different, you will love this bag. Today we went to eat at PEELS on Bowery for lunch, opened by the founders of Freemans. It was a very beautiful day in New York City and such a pleasent change to eat with amazing sunshine inside of the restaurant. They offer American country style dishes, and I thought the most amazing things were the potato chips, which came along with my smoked trout sandwich... Nothing can beat the thick cut, kettle cooked, and well seasoned potato chips! Also, the cookie-sandwich was the highlight of lunch. My mouth get watery when I imagine the chocolate cookie and vanilla butter cream. PEELS is well worth to try if you are around the neighborhood. You can just stop by for a coffee and baked goods too.

Party Party Party!!! And what would fashion week be with out a little fun??? Last night the Aloha Rag team stopped in to our neighbor, DonHill's to join the Adam Kimell x Carhartt party. We are proud to be one of only five stores to carry the collaboration in U.S!!! The venue was packed with a lot of fashion people and music fans, who came to see Hank Williams III. Country music is not familiar to my ears, so I guess I was very lucky to listen to one of it's best performers for my first time. He was a great musician, and made us feel like we are in the middle of the southern state. After that, the team swung by Proenza Schouler after party, which was held in the club Pyramid on Avenue A. When we finally reached the dance floor in the back, after swimming through the pool of people at the front bar, we just danced, danced, and danced... Great night!
Taking a walk through the New York boutique yesterday, we were delighted by the amount of Olive colored pieces on the racks. Since "Military Green" was a key color last season, it is a natural progression for this milder tone to be hot for Spring. This season's Olive color is more on the sophisticated side of the Military color pallatte, with a more modern and delicate touch to it.
